COURSE OUTLINE

Prerequisites:  Clearance of a Felony Affidavit.  Health Care Provider which is taught in day 1.

Course Length 6 -10 hour days

Class Size:  The maximum number of students that may be trained and tested per instructor shall be ten (10) in the classroom session.

First Responder

Day 1

8:00 Course Information
Course Objective

  • To provide students with the necessary skills and knowledge to assist them with emergency medical techniques should an unfortunate event occur. 
  • Students will be given the knowledge and taught these skills in a classroom and practical setting. 
  • Students shall demonstrate these necessary skills during practical examination and demonstrate knowledge during written examination.

Successful Course Completion:

  • Requires a minimum score of 70% or greater, unless otherwise specified by the student’s employer. 
  • Grades shall be calculated by dividing the number of questions answered correctly by the total number of exam questions and quizzes.
  • Successful demonstration of practical skills using National Registry Skills Examination.

Day 5

8:00 – 10:00 Medical Emergencies

  • Signs and symptoms
  • Cardiac and respiratory emergencies
  • Heat and cold emergency
  • Behavioral emergency
  • Alcohol and drug emergency
  • Assisting a patient with certain  medications

10:00 – 12:00 Bleeding and soft tissue injuries

  • Heart - Blood and blood vessels
  • Bleeding
  • Shock
  • Soft Tissue injuries
  • Burns
  • Industrial accidents

12:00 Lunch

1:00 – 3:00 Injuries to muscles and bones

  • Musculoskeletal system
  • Splinting
  • Specific extremity injuries
  • Injuries to the head, neck, and chest
  • Application of a C – collar
  • Spinal immobilization

3:00 – 6:00 Skills and practical review

Day 6

  • Assisting a mother in child birth

3:00 -  until: Final Test

Note: The content and times of the course listed in this outline may vary due to class size and experience of participants.

Each student will be required to pass a written exam as well as a practical exam.  The practical tests will involve hands – on demonstration of all skills learned.  If the instructor feels that a student has not completed the practical part of the training to his satisfaction they will not be allowed to pass.
